Sedation Dentistry

We fully understand that many people are anxious about visiting the dentist. Since we don’t want fear to hold you back from getting the dental care you need, we offer sedation dentistry to improve your experience. Sedation dentistry allows you to relax while we perform a dental treatment. At the same time, you will remain conscious and aware of your surroundings. Instead of avoiding dental procedures, ask us about sedation dentistry.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is a very safe form of sedation. It is inhaled and the effects start within a few seconds. It can be adjusted quickly if a patient is too light or too deep. Also, after a few minutes without the gas, it is safe to drive home.

Nitrous oxide makes many people feel happy and warm. It causes a lot of people to laugh so it is often called laughing gas. It is great for sedation when a person is nervous at the dentist. It is also a great pain relief.

I would be glad to use it if you are extremely nervous or you need some pain relief during your procedure. Our goal is to keep you as relaxed as possible, no matter what procedure that we are performing.

Special Needs Dentistry

Special needs patients require dental work too. They also deserve to find a dentist and staff who are compassionate. They need a dentist who is understanding and able to work with them to ensure that their mouths are healthy.

IV Sedation

Depending on the treatment you are receiving at Stanley Hometown Dentistry LLC or your level of dental anxiety, our dentist may suggest using IV sedation in Stanley, Wisconsin, during your next appointment. If you are interested in learning more or would like to plan your appointment with Dr. James Gunelson, call our office at (715) 644-3601 and speak with a member of our team.

Intravenous (IV) sedation is a type of conscious sedation, meaning that you will remain awake during your treatment. When you receive IV sedation, it allows our dentist to provide you with medication directly into your bloodstream so that you can relax quickly. After completing your treatment, you may feel as if you slept through it or do not recall the details of your visit to our office. IV sedation is very safe, and our dentist and team will monitor you carefully to ensure that you remain comfortable.

Before we can provide you with IV sedation, our dentist will meet one-on-one with you to discuss your medical history and dental needs. We will review all relevant factors and discuss your sedation options to determine if IV sedation is right for you. If you are receiving this form of sedation dentistry, you will need to have someone available to drive you home after your treatment. We also recommend that someone stay with you for a few hours after your treatment until the medication has worn off.
